PBA Performs Mahler’s 3rd Symphony with SF Symphony

“PBA Boys Sang with Infectious Joy”

The San Francisco Chronicle proclaimed that “boys from the Pacific Boychoir Academy sang with infectious joy” while performing Mahler’s Third Symphony with the San Francisco Symphony, June 28-30.

Conducted By Esa-Pekka Salonen

Under the expert direction of Esa-Pekka Salonen, our boys sang the children’s chorus in Mahler’s fifth movement — imitating the sound of ringing church bells.

Maestro Salonen’s Generous Offer to Our Boys

Maestro Salonen offered our boys the opportunity to sit on stage to watch the entire Sunday performance, rather than entering only for the fifth movement. Their presence would require staying seated on stage for 90 minutes before they stood to sing.

The opportunity was put to a vote by the boys, who seized the once-in-a-lifetime chance to watch Salonen conduct the orchestra from their front-row seats over the orchestra!
