Treble Choirs

A “treble” voice or a “boy treble” refers to an unchanged voice.

Four treble choirs at Pacific Boychoir Academy represent boys’ advancing skills in musicianship and vocal training: Minstrels, Intermezzi, Cantori & Day School Troubadors.

Minstrels

After School Choir
Beginning Boys
Grades 1-3

Minstrels explore rhythm through patterns, movement and playing Orff instruments. Boys learn the basics of posture, breath control and how to read music notes.

Minstrels choristers are exposed to a variety of musical styles and qualities of singing — while they practice teamwork and the skills of focused listening!

Minstrels perform twice a year in our Winter and Spring Family Concerts. When ready, boys advance to PBA’s Intermezzi ensemble.

Rehearsal: Wednesdays 4-6 pm
Tuition: $2,275/year

Cantori

Experienced Boys
Grades 5-8

With the goal of being one of the best boychoirs in the United States, Cantori rehearsals are repertoire-intensive — emphasizing multiple-voice parts, advanced music-reading and ear-training techniques.

PBA camaraderie begins to fuel boys’ musical advancement in Cantori. These choristers work together with a shared commitment to excellence and engaged support for each other and PBA’s younger boys.

Cantori performs 5-8 times a year in a variety of performances, and receive invitations to sing with PBA’s elite Day School Troubadors for high-profile performances and symphony engagements. Cantori boys are key choristers in PBA’s 4-5 day Domestic Tour in June.

When Cantori boys enter high school, they advance to our Changed Voices ensemble.

Rehearsal: Mondays & Wednesdays 4-6 pm

The Audition-Interview

No previous musical training is required to sing with Pacific Boychoir Academy.

The PBA experience is accessible to all boys who want to sing — and to be part of something extraordinary!

Come to PBA with one song prepared. The song can be “Happy Birthday” or “Twinkle, Twinkle” — as long as it’s something you know well.

The Audition-Interview at PBA is a placement assessment to determine:

  • Range of voice
  • Ability to learn a simple tune
  • Ability to hear high and low pitches
  • Ability to match rhythmic patterns
  • Willingness to learn

We’re also eager to meet your family and answer any questions about PBA!

There is no fee for the audition-interview.

Continuum has released singles on Spotify and Apple Music and has been featured in numerous film and television projects. Continuum recently advanced to the 2024 semifinals of the International Championship of High School A Capella (ICHSA) — in the group’s first year entering the competition.

Continuum performs 15-20 times per year for private events, competitions, symphony engagements and other high-profile appearances. These choristers tour for 12-14 days each summer with PBA’s International Tour.

Continuum choristers must audition yearly for membership in PBA’s most respected and advanced ensemble.
