Minstrels

After School Choir
Beginning Boys
Grades 1-3

Minstrels explore rhythm through patterns, movement and playing Orff instruments. Boys learn the basics of posture, breath control and how to read music notes.

Minstrels choristers are exposed to a variety of musical styles and qualities of singing — while they practice teamwork and the skills of focused listening!

Minstrels perform twice a year in our Winter and Spring Family Concerts. When ready, boys advance to PBA’s Intermezzi ensemble.

Rehearsal: Wednesdays 4-6 pm
Tuition: $2,275/year

Intermezzi boys study rhythm, intonation and solfege (Do-Re-Mi notation and hand movements.) Choristers also learn tuneful singing, breath control and the skills to sing in two or three voice parts.

Intermezzi performs 2-3 times a year for casual events, and twice a year in our Winter and Spring Family Concerts. When ready, boys advance to PBA’s Cantori ensemble.

With the goal of being one of the best boychoirs in the United States, Cantori rehearsals are repertoire-intensive — emphasizing multiple-voice parts, advanced music-reading and ear-training techniques.

Cantori performs 5-8 times a year and receives invitations to sing for high-profile performances and symphony engagements. Cantori boys are key choristers in PBA’s 4-5 day Domestic Tour in June.

When Cantori boys enter high school, they advance to our Changed Voices ensemble.

Changed Voices is a challenging and fast-paced performance choir. These choristers have vocal skills across their upper and lower registers and experience with a variety of choral music. This ensemble combines tenor, baritone and bass voices, sings in 4-8 parts and practices sight-reading music.

Changed Voices sings for high-profile performances and symphony engagements. These young men tour 12-14 days each summer on PBA’s International Tour.

New members are accepted each year by audition.

Continuum performs 15-20 times per year for private events, competitions, symphony engagements and other high-profile appearances. These choristers tour 12-24  days each summer on PBA’s International Tour.

Continuum choristers must audition yearly for membership in PBA’s most respected and advanced ensemble.
