Head of School, Associate Music Director, Intermezzi and Sorella

Natascha Bach attended Bismarck State College and the University of North Dakota. She has been teaching for 20 years. Natascha has enjoyed teaching all levels, Kindergarten through 12th grade. She has spent 13 years teaching at the elementary level, four years working with middle school students, and, most recently, six years at the high school level.

Director of Choral Studies

Andrew Brown, (Bachelor of Music La Sierra University, Artists Diploma Hartt Conservatory, Master of Music Holy Names University), a leading Kodály-based choral and instrumental conductor, has returned to Pacific Boychoir Academy where he is in his second season as the Director of Choral Studies for the day school, having previously conducted after-school choirs.

Founder, Artistic Program Director

Marcia Roy is a founding member of Pacific Boychoir Academy. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in music from California State University, East Bay, and has been the organist at Montclair Presbyterian Church in Oakland for over 20 years. Formerly, Ms. Roy served as choral conductor at Holy Names High School in Oakland and the San Francisco Girls Chorus.

Founder, Artistic Director Emeritus

Kevin Fox has been involved with boychoirs since the age of eight. He holds degrees in music (with Honors) and economics from Wesleyan University, Connecticut, where he studied voice with tenor Wayne Rivera, conducting with Mel Strauss, composing with Neely Bruce, and received the Lipsky Prize for outstanding scholarship in choral studies.

Associate Music Director, Continuum, Cantori & Trouveres

Steve Blum studied at California State University, Long Beach (Bachelor of Music degree in jazz piano) and California Institute of the Arts (Master of Fine Arts in jazz piano). Mr. Blum has been involved in the choir world for many years as a choral singer, director, and accompanist. Mr.

Founder, Associate Music Director, Minstrels

Stella Brown is one of the founding music teachers of Pacific Boychoir Academy. She has a Masters in Early Childhood Music Education with an emphasis in Kodály techniques from the Hartt School of Music at University of Hartford, Connecticut.

Associate Music Director, Prelude

Carmen Trefil has been a music teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1995, specializing in early childhood music education. She has a degree from BEM Institute for Early Childhood Education, four years of training in the Kodály method, and 20 years of teaching experience in private and public schools, music studios, and special education classes.

Vocal Instructor

Rita Lilly is familiar to audiences in oratorio, recital, and opera, but most notably for her performances of baroque and early music. She has been lauded by The New York Times for “possessing a voice of strength, clarity, and virtuosity” and by the S.F. Classical Voice for “having a pure, silvery voice with plenty of color.” Ms.

Choir Manager

We welcome Peter Kenton, our new Choir Manager! He will help ensure the smooth running of the choir throughout the season, and will plan summer tours, yearly retreats and summer camps. Peter has been a part of Pacific Boychoir since the age of 8. He has sung in all the PBA choirs, and was also a member of the day school.


Summer Dittmer has been a high school administrator, math instructor and honors English teacher for 18 years in the San Francisco Bay Area.  She has a BA in Rhetorical Communications and Journalism, certifications in Behavior Intervention, Link Crew Student Integration and Lindamood-Bell Seeing Stars Literacy and Differentiation Programs, and has completed postgraduate work at Holy Names Univer

Humanities (English & History)

Bethany Edstrom is an educator with experience as a teacher, department chair, administrator, and dorm parent in independent schools. Her education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in literature and creative writing from Dartmouth College and a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from the University of Arkansas.


Dr. Sarah Harrell joins us this year as our new Latin teacher. Shel earned her BA in Greek and Latin from Wellesley College and her PhD in Classics from Princeton University. Dr.


Amy Jensen received a BA in Spanish Teaching and an MA in Spanish Literature from the University of Utah.  Amy has lived in multiple Spanish-speaking countries, including Argentina and Chile.  She has taught language, culture, and literature of Spanish speaking peoples to both children and adults, and is passionate about sharing these things with her students.  Amy has two teenagers and one pre

Science & Physical Education

Leo Knudtson graduated from University of California, Berkeley with a major in geography and a minor in education. After college, he received a Certificate of Permaculture design from the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center.

Administrative and Development Director

Johanna Ortis has worked for her entire career as a bookkeeper and operations manager for non-profits, most recently at MyPath (powering youth potential, seeding economic mobility) in San Francisco and SAGE (Sustainable Agriculture Education) in Berkeley.

Communications Director

Jennifer Wilde joins us as our new Director of Communications. She brings over 20 years of Internet industry experience to PBA. Jennifer is responsible for all marketing and public relations efforts, including our website and social media, as well as all communications, including email and MemberHub.

Director of Admissions, Recruiting & Outreach

Janelle (McCuen) Geistlinger earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at San Francisco State University in advanced film production with an emphasis on direction and cinematography. She ran an independent film production company for 11 years, later focusing on still photography, which proved to be a better complement to parenthood.
